DIRECTOR OF WASTEWATER OPERATIONS & COMPLIANCE

INTRODUCTION

The Sanitary District of Decatur is a unit of local government and was organized 1917. The District has approximately 31,850 customers divided into three categories: residential, commercial and industrial.  While residential customers are the largest group in number, industrial customers account for about two-thirds of user fee revenue. Decatur has a combined sewer system and the treatment plant is designed for an average daily flow of 41 million gallons per day (MGD) and a peak flow of 125 MGD. In 2017, a staff of 54 full time employees treated an average of 26.4 MGD and a maximum flow of 116.6 MGD. 

NATURE OF WORK:

This position plans, coordinates, directs and administers wastewater operation, industrial pretreatment program and laboratory department activities; administers environmental monitoring requirements to assure regulatory compliance; assists in the development and implementation of operational procedures; and performs related work as required.

REQUIREMENTS

Position requires an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Certificate of Competency as a Class I Wastewater Operator or a PE license with a degree in chemical or environmental engineering in addition to plant operation experience. Qualified candidates must have extensive knowledge of NPDES permit regulations, pretreatment standards, biological nutrient removal, four years related supervisory experience and or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

RESIDENCY:

Must reside within the corporate limits of Macon County within 180 days of accepting position. Relocation assistance available. 

Starting salary is $87,000 DOQ/E.  The District offers a performance incentive, generous health insurance plan and paid leave, defined benefit pension, retirement health savings plan and 457 deferred income plan.
