Hiring for E&I Technician Position


The Sanitary District of Decatur is a unit of local government organized in 1917. The District has approximately 31,850 customers divided into three categories: residential, commercial and industrial.  While residential customers are the largest group in number, industrial customers account for about two-thirds of user fee revenue. Decatur has a combined sewer system and the treatment plant is designed for an average daily flow of 41 million gallons per day (MGD) and a peak flow of 125 MGD. In 2017, a staff of 55 full time employees treated an average of 26.4 MGD and a maximum flow of 116.6 MGD. 


Under general supervision of the I & C Manager performs routine maintenance and/or repairs on electrical and instrumentation equipment at the main treatment plant and/or outside facilities.


High School or General Education Diploma (GED) with a minimum of six years experience in comparable work is required. A valid Illinois motor vehicle operator’s license is required with a Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required within the first five months of hire date. Must have considerable knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic and electronic equipment with emphasis on calibration and analysis and the ability to plan, layout and execute electrical work, read and understand wiring diagrams and blueprints.

We are an EOE and require a post-offer pre-employment physical and drug screen. This is a union position after a 100 working day probationary period.

Pay is $23.77-$24.73 per hour DOQ. The District offers a generous health insurance plan and paid leave, defined benefit pension, retirement health savings plan and 457 deferred income plan.
