Lost Bridge Lift Station Tree Removal
You may notice changes at the Sanitary District of Decatur Lost Bridge lift station, located at the corner of Lost Bridge Road and Oak Ridge Drive. The Sanitary District needed to remove three Cottonwood trees and one Silver Maple tree that posed a potential hazard to the pump station, neighboring properties, and passing traffic due to decay, common in these types of trees. Despite previous efforts to remove dead wood, falling limbs had damaged the building and destroyed a peroxide storage tank. Peroxide is used to add oxygen to the sewer system and reduce odors. The District needs to restore the peroxide system before summer, and we did not want to risk losing another tank. In a residential setting, cottonwoods and silver maples are not the best choice of trees, and they should not have been that close to the building or in a ditch. The trees will be replaced with vegetation that is compatible with the use of the property, including a mixture of trees and shrubs.
